Reading a Ford VIN
Ford splits its WMI by vehicle class: 1FA is passenger cars, 1FM is multipurpose vehicles (Explorer, Expedition), 1FT is light trucks (F-150, Ranger), 1FD is heavier chassis-cab trucks and 1FB is buses and Transit vans. 3FA means Mexican assembly at Hermosillo, MAJ is the EcoSport from India, and NM0 marks Transit Connect vans from Spain or Turkey. Position 11 gives the specific plant, which is the fastest way to tell a Dearborn F-150 from a Kansas City one.
