Reading a Toyota VIN
Toyota has one of the widest WMI spreads of any manufacturer because it builds in so many places. JT-prefixed VINs are Japanese-built; 4T1 and 4T3 mean Georgetown, Kentucky (Camry, RAV4); 5TD, 5TF and 5TB mean Princeton, Indiana or San Antonio, Texas (Highlander, Sienna, Tundra, Tacoma); 2T1 and 2T3 mean Cambridge, Ontario (Corolla, RAV4); 3TM means Baja California, Mexico (Tacoma). If you're checking a used Tacoma, the WMI immediately narrows the plant.

What a Toyota decode returns
The full factory record as filed with NHTSA: model and trim as built, engine displacement, cylinder count and horsepower where the manufacturer supplied it, transmission style and speed count, drive type, body class, door and seat counts, restraint system, and driver-assistance equipment such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning and backup camera.
